Many people will be very familiar with this household brand. Almost everybody will buy especially during party, events and festival season. Yeo's, I believe has been with use for many years. I remember seeing it on the shelf of USA Supermarket!

I just came across 1 very interesting post and I thought is good to share with all of you.
Like I said, most Singaporeans would be familiar with the brand. Perhaps most would have purchased products by the company. Yet most are unaware that the founder of the Yeo Hiap Seng (YHS) sauce factory in Singapore was a devoted Christian. The early Protestant entrepreneurs, Thian In saw his work as a calling. Though the Presbyterian businessman from Zhangzhou, Fujian, believed in the sovereignty of God, he knew that God had called him to ‘work out’ his salvation ‘with fear and trembling’.

He read the Bible every day, prayed frequently in the bedroom and always led prayer at mealtimes with family members and his workers. Towkay (boss) that he was, Thian In usually ate with his workers at lunchtime.

The father figure also never failed to give thanks to God continually for His blessings. He would hold thanksgiving services for the whole extended family on the birthdays of his five sons. These gatherings were very much like church services. Thian In would take the opportunity to exhort his family members to cling on to God and fear Him. He would also not baulk at openly rebuking his grandchildren for any misbehaviour. The patriarch himself set the moral example by avoiding excesses like alcoholism and extramarital affairs. The long passage of time and blinding success did not cause the founder to lose his love for God. In 1970, Thian In organised a special service to thank God for the completion of a new office at the Bukit Timah building, YHS’ 70th anniversary and his 70th birthday.

Beyond the outward appearance, Thian In regarded his employees and even strangers as his own family. He told his staff to approach him if they needed money. The towkay also kept an opening at the factory door for those who needed soya sauce urgently to treat illnesses after working hours.“My father has no job description for what is a towkay, but he just went all out in serving,” said Alfred, who conceived the book.Thian In’s diligent service for God rubbed off his youngest son. Alfred said: “As I dedicated myself to the Lord his hardworking also rubbed into me to go all out for the Lord. That’s why I have been serving the Lord in the last 50 years without regret.”

What a man of legacy!
